José Martín

José has been a lifelong resident of Fuencarral, along with his family, which has a connection with the town that goes back centuries. Following his early retirement, he now devotes himself full time to his life’s great hobby: researching local history. “Pepe” is the author of the book ‘El santuario de Ntra. Sra. de Valverde y Fuencarral (siglos XIII-XVIII)’.

He is convinced that the future is Madrid Nuevo Norte.

It has been a neighbourhood integration project. We’ve brought together many residents to talk about the neighbourhood and, above all, talk about its future

Virginia Garcia

Virginia is well-acquainted with life in the Fuencarral neighbourhood, her children “are the fourth generation of Fuencarraleros” and she tells us about the problems and expectations of a neighbourhood hopes to improve its quality of life with Madrid Nuevo Norte.

Madrid Nuevo Norte has been designed taking the needs and concerns of the residents into account. It was about time that the area was taken into account

Carlos Ortiz

Carlos tells us that the association was created with to serve the interests of Chamartín’s associates and residents. The association is promoting citizen participation by gathering suggestions for the urban development of the district, in order to improve coexistence.

We’ve worked as a team for many years
to ensure that the end result of Madrid Nuevo Norte is the best for Madrid

Daniel Caparrós

The Chamartín Merchants Association was created in 2007 to bring together the associations of the commercial arteries of Clara del Rey, Corazón de María, Príncipe de Vergara, Estación de Chamartín and López de Hoyos to combine the commercial management into a single organisation.

It has participated intensely in Madrid Nuevo Norte from day one, working as a team to see the real needs of the neighbourhood, the residents and the merchants.

Together we’ve been searching for technical solutions to make Madrid Nuevo Norte the best project for Madrid

Jorge Galaso

In 2015, Jorge Galaso, together with other residents, decided to embark on an adventure: to revitalise the area of the district known as Costa Fleming and help small businesses, because “there were more commercial spaces for rent than were open”.

The association is formed by 50 merchants, SMEs, business owners, freelancers and hostelry owners in the area and aims to “revitalise, protect and enhance” the Costa Fleming. Its president stresses the importance of small businesses and compares it to the skin of the face because “identifies a neighbourhood and creates its identity”.

Mixed uses in Madrid Nuevo Norte,
integrating offices with local commerce is essential for a healthy neighbourhood

Roberto Mena

The Lobo Bike Cycling Association brings together residents of the Las Tablas neighbourhood through cycling. Its members are keenly aware of the challenges of cycling in the neighbourhood and the city, and constantly communicate their needs and opinions on the subject, always ensuring responsible and safe use of bicycles. The Association periodically organises bike rides for different groups, to promote bike use and the use of sustainable modes of transportation in the area.

Thus far, Lobo Bike has organised several excursions with residents to get to know the area of action of Madrid Nuevo Norte.

We’ve helped each other and we believe that
the project will bring a lot of positive things to the city

Pepe Peláez

Pepe has a degree in English and is a retired teacher, a resident of Las Tablas and a representative of the neighbourhood’s Senior Citizens Group. It is his hope that Madrid Nuevo Norte will improve things for the elderly in the neighbourhood and for all of Madrid’s citizens in general.

We want to create a neighbourhood spirit and help the residents

Lorenzo Alvarez

Lorenzo explains how participating in Madrid Nuevo Norte has given his neighbourhood association first-hand information about the project. “The residents of Las Tablas are very interested in how the project will impact mobility and housing, and how the works will affect us.”

We’ve been working all these years to give residents the information they need to get a clear idea of a project of this magnitude, which will radically change the north of Madrid

Inés Novella

Inés is an architect and holds a master’s degree in equal opportunities. She currently researches and coordinates the projects of the UNESCO Chair of Gender Policies in Science, Technology and Innovation at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Her two lines of research address, on the one hand, equality and gender policies in technological fields, and on the other, architectural and urban design with a gender perspective.

She says that thanks to the collaboration with Distrito Castellana Norte, it’s been possible to put work that was known at a theoretical level to the test. Many activities have been carried out, such as exploratory safety walks with women through Chamartín, Fuencarral and Las Tablas.

This contact with women is fundamental,
to let them know that we need them and that we want them to be part of the Madrid Nuevo Norte project.
