Citizen participation
A project that reimagines Madrid with your ideas and your voice.
A project that reimagines Madrid with your ideas and your voice.
Madrid Nuevo Norte
Our commitment to you began in 2017. We were pioneers in our country. In that year, we began to develop a process of direct participation, the first for a project of this scale, which continues to grow today.
We inform, we create bonds, and we listen to you. Because your experience makes the city that we are creating better.
You are the main character in the city. Neighbours, associations and collectives make this project a reality. Listen to their stories!
Mixed uses in Madrid Nuevo Norte, integrating offices with local commerce is essential for a healthy neighbourhood.
Jorge Galaso
President of the Costa Fleming association
Including people with functional diversity in Madrid Nuevo Norte is a crucial aspect. People with disabilities face many challenges that others often overlook..
Pilar Merino
President of the Hyggelig Inclusive Art Association
We’ve been working all these years to give residents the information they need to get a clear idea of a project that will change the north of Madrid.
Lorenzo Álvarez
President of the Las Tablas neighbourhood association
These are some of the main developments of the project achieved thanks to citizen participation.
Public facilities that meet the needs of the neighbourhoods.
More pedestrian connections with the surrounding areas and neighbourhoods.
Cultural heritage conservation: historic chapels that are part of our heritage.
Action to preserve and promote what we are, and the identity of our neighbourhoods.
Avoiding the border effect: integration and cohesion between the existing neighbourhoods and the project.
Redistribution of green spaces. Parks where you need them.
Everyone counts: inclusive design of urban spaces.
Protection and promotion of local businesses.
And much more to be achieved with citizen participation.
We're creating a space for neighbors to share their artistic, cultural, and social projects. Take a moment and discover them.

Citizen activity does not stop in Madrid Nuevo Norte. We have several working groups and meeting places where we address queries and concerns about the project. We also discuss the aspects of Madrid Nuevo Norte that matter most to us: our neighbourhoods, the sustainability of the project and the vitality of local commerce.
Everyone who wants to be an active part of the future of their city can share views, ideas, proposals and suggestions that shape our common environment. Get to know them and join one!
Since 2017, we have been developing the first, most comprehensive direct participation process in Spain for a major city creation project. We work with different collectives (children, teenagers, the elderly, women and people with disabilities) and with the residents of the surrounding neighbourhoods. And we adapt to their needs.
We do all this with real commitment, avoiding creating false expectations and prioritising transparency at all stages of the project. A two-way conversation with a 5-step methodology:
We understand that each area has its own history, distinctive features and personality. We know each neighbourhood intimately.
It is essential that you know all the information about the project in order to be able to participate effectively.
We listen to your opinion, we take it into account, and we pass it on to the drafting team.
We explain how your ideas are becoming a reality and are shaping the project.
We analyse what works and what we can improve. Madrid Nuevo Norte is constantly evolving.
Madrid Nuevo Norte is changing the way we create new neighbourhoods, with the help of the people who will live there. This is why we have redefined the features of urban planning that makes a city.
Building a city for the future by defending the essence of a lifelong neighbourhood. We rely on permanent collaboration with neighbours and associations of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
We are bringing back what is most authentic and unique to Madrid: the soul of the neighbourhood. We are building a future based on tradition, history and the everlasting essence of Madrid. Our way of creating a city and a future is by creating a neighbourhood, and that is why we want to:
Collaborate, build networks and reach consensus step by step with neighbours, local and traders' associations, strengthening the local associative network.
Bring the surrounding neighbourhoods together and integrate them into the project, and also with each other, promoting a sense of community.
Defend the identity and local culture of the neighbourhoods, respecting the tradition and heritage of their inhabitants. We want to preserve the history, character, and unique personality of each neighbourhood, translating our past in the city of the future.
Giving voice and prominence to all the diverse groups that inhabit the city.
The inclusion of diverse social groups that have historically been unheard in the planning of cities means:
A perspective of broad inclusion in urban planning: children, teenagers, women, the elderly, people with disabilities and all the social groups that form part of the city, now and in the future.
Listening, knowing and understanding the specific needs of each collective so that all people feel represented. Maintaining a receptive attitude towards their needs, historical demands and problems.
Taking into account the opinion and experience of different groups of people using the city and incorporate it into the design of the city. In this way, we learn from the diverse uses of the city.
Incorporating citizen participation in all phases of the project.
We call for the citizens' involvement in the project through participatory processes. We believe in:
The right of citizens to be involved in decisions that affect their environment and their city.
Promoting a continuous process of citizen participation, promoting specific activities and projects to permanently inform, involve and generate spaces for participation throughout the process.
Involving everyone who shares the city to design a project tailored to people: on a human scale.
Fostering a participatory culture that, in addition to enriching and improving the project, has a positive impact on society and a transformative experience. We want to generate a sense of identification between citizens and the project.
Inaugurating a new way of city-making that puts people at the centre of planning.
A paradigm shift in urban planning that places people as its core. A new way of making a city in our country, with the potential to become a benchmark for other urban projects in Spain and Europe. CreaMNN is a pioneer in innovation and disruption in urban planning through a collaborative and transparent model. And all of this with a long-term vision, throughout the entire project.
