Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

  • Sustainable Development GOALS

    M. 3.2 By 2030, life expectancy at birth will have increased by more than 2.3 years for men and by more than 0.5 years for women above baseline.

    M. 3.3 By 2030, the gap in life expectancy at birth between city districts will be reduced to approximately 1.5 years between the best and worst for men, and 1 year for women.

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

A 13-kilometre green artery of interconnected green spaces will be built, and the historical livestock route will be restored.

What is the impact?

The implementation of heart-healthy routes promotes physical activity in suitable and simple environment. The ways in which these routes can be used help reduce risk factors among the population such as obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes. This reduces mortality rates and extends life expectancy. At the same time, these types of routes increase the city's tree cover and discourage the use of vehicles and transport, improving air quality and reducing pollution.

Operational indicator

Kilometres of heart-healthy routes.
