11.4 Safeguard cultural heritage

Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

    11.4 Strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage.

    M 11.8 Have the candidacy of "El Paseo del Prado y El Buen Retiro, landscape of the Arts and Sciences" declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

    M 11.9 By 2030, progressively increase the use and enjoyment of municipal library services by the citizens of Madrid.

    M 11.10 Promote access to more favourable property-tax conditions (exemptions or credits) for buildings that are specially protected because of their historical heritage status (especially as a result of the application of the Historical Heritage Law of the Region of Madrid).

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

Six plots for cultural facilities will be provided, including three basic services plots reserved for cultural spaces, two chapels and one protected building. It is also worth mentioning that 22 activities were carried out to promote the value of the existing cultural heritage, reaching 1,534 participants.

What is the impact?

The cultural facilities of Madrid Nuevo Norte have a positive impact on the accessibility of cultural spaces of the population of the area of influence, where the availability of cultural services is markedly low, having a positive impact on Madrid's indicators relating to cultural activities and municipal libraries.

Accessibility of cultural spaces: Proportion of the population within 400 metres of cultural spaces.
