7.3 Double the rate of improvement of energy efficiency (1/2)

Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

  • Sustainable Development GOALS

7.3 By 2030, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency.

  • Madrid SDG

M 7.5 By 2030, have implemented an energy efficiency system with more than 80% of municipal energy consumption monitored and accessible in the open data portal.

M 7.6 Improve the energy rating of municipal buildings and facilities.

M 7.7 By 2030, increase the use of zero-emission vehicles.

M 7.8 Ensure that by 2030, 100% of the EMT bus fleet is ‘green’ or ‘clean’.

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

Madrid Nuevo Norte is committed to meeting the highest energy rating levels and is working to become energy-positive. Madrid Nuevo Norte also ensures compliance with the thermal demand and hermetic sealing criteria established in the Passivhaus standard for residential buildings.

What is the impact?

The increase in infrastructure and population associated with both the construction phase and the activity phase of Madrid Nuevo Norte will lead to an increase in energy consumption, generating a negative impact. However, Madrid Nuevo Norte's Master Framework for the Development of Urban Development Projects in Energy Infrastructure considers 3 scenarios aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy intensity, mitigating Madrid Nuevo Norte's negative impact as a result.

Two of the three possible scenarios considered for Madrid Nuevo Norte improve the city's overall energy efficiency, which helps move forward towards target 7.3 and will very likely improve the upward trend in energy efficiency in the future. Madrid Nuevo Norte's very own energy intensity is also much higher than recommended.

Operational indicator

Energy intensity (kWh/Thousands €)
