1.3. Implement social protection systems

1.5. Resilience to environmental, economic and social disasters

Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

  • Sustainable Development GOALS

1.3 Implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all, including floors, and by 2030 achieve substantial coverage of the poor and the vulnerable.

1.5 By 2030, build the resilience of the poor and those in vulnerable situations and reduce their exposure and vulnerability to climate-related extreme events and other economic, social and environmental shocks and disasters.

  • Madrid SDG

M 1.2 By 2030, continuously improve the care of the elderly by municipal social services.

M 1.3 By 2030, progressively reduce the percentage of people with feelings of loneliness in the city of Madrid.

M 1.4 By 2030, progressively increase the coverage of the basic needs of vulnerable persons in the city of Madrid.

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

More than 2,500 housing units will be built with different public protection regimes, distributed throughout the Madrid Nuevo Norte development.

What is the impact?

Approximately 25% of all of the housing in Madrid Nuevo Norte (2,500), distributed proportionally among the three project domains, will have some form of protection. Housing is one of the most important dimensions and the one that has the greatest impact on the cost of living, so promoting public protection measures and making housing more accessible to the more disadvantaged groups will impact the people who suffer the most due to social exclusion and poverty.

Operational indicator

Proportion of social housing.
