7.2 Increase renewable energies

Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

  • Sustainable Development GOALS

7.2 By 2030, increase substantially the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

  • Madrid SDG

M 7.1 By 2030, meet 30% of the electricity demand of municipal buildings with renewable self-consumption systems.

M 7.2 By 2030, 70% of the energy consumed by newly constructed municipal housing buildings is renewable.

M 7.3 By 2030, substantially increase the share of renewable energy, as part of the Madrid City Council's general goal of energy self-sufficiency.

M 7.4 Promote access to tax breaks in the IBI (property tax) for properties that use renewable energies.

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

Madrid Nuevo Norte will focus on boosting local production of renewable energies and integrating them into the operation of electrified systems.

What is the impact?

The two scenarios considered for Madrid Nuevo Norte significantly improve on the goal that Madrid has set for 2030 for its consumed energy generated in photovoltaic installations. This improvement will undoubtedly have a positive impact on target 7.2.

Operational indicator

Percentage of energy for self-consumption, from photovoltaic installations and other local renewable sources.

Other related impact indicators

Indicators prepared based on sources such as the United Nations, the Spanish Statistical Office, the European Commission and the Madrid City Council.

  • United Nations JRC REDS

Percentage of total electricity consumed that is generated in municipal photovoltaic installations: 1%.

  • United Nations JRC REDS

Percentage of renewable energy consumed: 18%.
