13.2 Integrate climate change into national policies, strategies and planning

Target description

The indicators that assess the impact of these actions by Madrid Nuevo Norte were prepared based on the 169 targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the targets taken on by the Madrid City Council and localised for the city.

  • Sustainable Development GOALS

13.2 Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning.

  • Madrid SDG

M 13.2 Madrid is developing a decarbonisation roadmap, taking into account direct and indirect emissions, that will reduce total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Madrid by 65% in 2030 compared to 1990.

Madrid Nuevo Norte project actions

Madrid Nuevo Norte will implement different measures to reduce levels of CO2 and other polluting particles such as benzene and NO2 and airborne dust. Madrid Nuevo Norte is part of the Madrid project in the European Mission of 100 Climate Neutral Cities in 2030.

What is the impact?

The goal of the city of Madrid is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65% compared to 1990 (from 12,954 Kt CO2 Eq. to 4,534 Kt CO2 equivalent). Madrid Nuevo Norte will play a key role to achieve this because the infrastructure itself has an emissions mitigation plan that the development can use to offset and help achieve this goal. Madrid Nuevo Norte is one of Madrid's flagship initiatives in its decarbonisation strategy within the framework of the European Mission of 100 Climate Neutral Cities in 2030.
